PhD and Postdoctoral Positions
within the Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) on Low-dimensional quantum magnets for thermal management
Within the ITN LOTHERM, coordinated by the IFW Dresden and funded by the EU´s 7th framework programme, 9 leading universities, research centres and industrial companies from 7 European states offer 9 three-years PhD student positions and 4 Postdoctoral positions within the fields of physics, chemistry, materials science, computational science, and electronic media.
LOTHERM is focussing on the research topic of a new highly efficient magnetic mode of thermal conduction for thermal management. Projects in the following research areas are available:
- Materials synthesis and characterization (bulk and thin film)
- Transport in low dimensional quantum magnets (experiments and theory)
- Optical steady state and time-resolved spectroscopy
- Computer simulation
- Electronic media
Requirements:
Potential candidates should have an excellent university degree (master degree or diploma/PhD degree) in one of the research fields of interest, as well as good communication skills and the ability to collaborate closely with people from other disciplines in an international environment.
Early Stage Researchers:
- Must be in the first 4 years (full-time equivalent) of research career since gaining a university diploma giving access to doctoral studies.
- The length of individual appointment will be limited between 12 and 36 months.
Experienced Researchers:
- Must either be in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least 4 years of full-time equivalent research experience;
- The research experience since gaining a university diploma giving access to doctoral studies may not exceed 5 years at the time of appointment.
- The length of individual appointment will be limited between 12 and 24 months.
All candidates must NOT be nationals of the country where they seek employment, or have legally resided or have had their main activity in that country for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the starting date.
